About Tapesty of New York
Created in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Tapestry of New York is an online gallery of artwork and media from students across the state exploring the theme, “We the People.” New York elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit creative works that reflect their unique perspectives on the history of the American Revolution and ongoing “unfinished revolutions.”
For more information on submitting to the Tapestry, view our Call for Submissions, information For Educators, and FAQs.
The Tapestry of New York is a project of the New York State 250th Commemorative Commission and WNET New York Public Media. The Educator Toolkit was created by Studio in a School in collaboration with Daniel Sigward

About NY250
New York 250 commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution by honoring New York’s pivotal role in the nation’s founding and inviting all New Yorkers to reflect on the unfinished revolution—the continuing effort to extend the promises of liberty, equality, and opportunity to all. Through education, storytelling, and community engagement, NY250 celebrates our shared history while looking ahead to the next 250 years of expanding life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for every New Yorker.
About Studio in a School
Studio in a School is the largest arts education organization in New York City to focus exclusively on visual art. In its over 47-year history, Studio has provided over $100 million in services to nearly 1,200,000 students. Our programs are taught by working artists with technical skills, creativity, and passion for art making. These Artist Instructors provide process-based visual art instruction in classrooms, modeling an artist’s way of thinking. From our start in 3 schools, Studio has grown to serve 27,000 children at 150 sites annually with a corps of ~100 professional artists. Studio prioritizes serving schools with higher than 61% Economic Need Index.
