Two hundred and fifty years ago, the Declaration of Independence gave voice to an idea that would shape a nation: that all people are created equal and deserve the right to freedom. Today, as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, students across Brewster Central School District are honored to come together with the Southeast Museum and Putnam County Historian’s Office to read this document. By revisiting these words, we recognize the responsibility each individual has in carrying those ideals forward. Together, the project demonstrates that “We the People” is not just a phrase from our founding documents, but a living commitment passed from one generation to the next.
